JOHN & ASHLEIGH | Central America

Meet our Family

As many of you know, John was born and raised in San José, Costa Rica as a missionary kid until he was 16. I (Ashleigh) was born and raised in Yutan, Nebraska. We met through a church small group and have been part of Waypoint Church since its beginning. Together, we have four incredible boys: Gideon, Micaiah, Hezekiah, and Johnny. In April of 2022, our family moved to Central America, where we now live and serve full-time.

Our heart and mission

Our heart is to disciple and encourage the next generation of believers in this region. I homeschool our boys, and together we host a weekly small group for young adults from the nearby area. These gatherings are a time of Bible study, worship, and prayer. John is also leading a discipleship group with several men who are new in their faith, walking alongside them as they grow in their relationship with Jesus.

Each year, John helps lead a men’s retreat that brings together men from different parts of our country. At the most recent retreat, we saw 52 men give their lives to Christ—an incredible testimony of what God is doing here!

We’ve also had the opportunity to partner with other local missionaries to support and strengthen ministries already at work in the area.

Life in Our Corner of the World

We live near the beach, and the boys love being outside, running along the sand, exploring the outdoors, and climbing mango and papaya trees to pick fresh tropical fruit growing wild along the road. Having this kind of space has been such a gift for our family, especially in this season of life.

Our beautiful country in Central America is has a rich culture and a warm, resilient people. The nation is predominantly Christian—about 58% of the population identifies as Catholic and 21% as Evangelical Protestant, a number that has been steadily growing. People here are hungry for spiritual truth, and we are encouraged by the openness we see in so many hearts.

We are so grateful for your ongoing prayers, encouragement, and support. Your partnership enables us to be present here—to pour into lives, share the love of Jesus, and be a light in our community. Please continue to pray for open doors, protection, and fruitfulness in the work ahead.
