BECCA & ERKINBEK | Central Asia
MEET OUR FAMILY
We're Erkinbek, Becca, and Ilias, and we live in Central Asia along the ancient Silk Road. Our country is a land of incredible beauty, with towering mountains covering 93% of the landscape and has one of the world's largest saline lakes! The people here are known for their warm hospitality and rich nomadic heritage that stretches back centuries.
OUR HEART AND MISSION
We're passionate about planting house churches and walking alongside new believers in their faith journey. Living in a predominantly Muslim context, we work closely with a team of local believers who share our vision for sharing God's love in culturally meaningful ways. It's both challenging and deeply rewarding to be part of what God is doing in this region.
LIFE IN OUR CORNER OF THE WORLD
Here are some glimpses into our world:
Celebrating Life Differently: We ring in the New Year on March 21st, which marks the beginning of spring and new life.
Food That Feeds the Soul: Foods here center around staples like fresh bread, tender meat, and potatoes, all accompanied by endless cups of tea. Hospitality here means you'll never leave a table hungry!
Unexpected Delicacies: During summer months, fermented mare's milk becomes a popular refreshing drink. It's definitely an acquired taste, but it's part of embracing the local culture!
From Nomads to Neighbors: While historically people lived in portable yurts and moved with their herds across the land, today most families have settled into villages and cities. Yet that nomadic spirit of adventure and adaptability still runs deep in the culture.
Language Adventures: We speak a Turkic language which has opened doors not just to communication, but to understanding the heart of the people we serve alongside.
